I like books, you like books, let’s read!
1. Dracula – Bram Stoker. This novel is a classic! I must admit that the first time I read it as a teenager I didn’t love it. But now that my prefrontal cortex is fully developed and I have a better appreciation for older books I love it! Written as diary entries we travel with Jonathan Harker, a young solicitor to Transylvania where he meets and stays with Count Dracula. Weird and freaky stuff happens to that Harker guy during his stay and lets just say things keep getting unsettling throughout the story. If you like getting totally creeped out than this is definitely a story for you!

2. The Shining – Stephen King. This book I try to read every September because it creeps the heck out of me and get’s me in the mood for Halloween. We follow the Torrance family to an isolated hotel where the father Jack is the caretaker for the winter. He and his wife Wendy, and son Danny, are the only occupants once the snows come. Cue cabin fever and the unravelling of Jack’s sanity when there is no escape and you have a really unsettling story. Oh yeah and don’t forget that the hotel is haunted as fffffff… well you know.

3. Neverwhere – Neil Gaiman. I started reading Neil Gaiman a few years ago when I came across Sandman and I really enjoy his stories. Neverwhere is about the underside of London, literally an underground city. Richard Mayhew is a stable young business man who is hella boring. He finds himself in underground London after saving a young lady named Door and gets caught up in a bunch of crazy. Which is awesome.

4. Interview with a Vampire – Anne Rice. The first vampire book I ever read and still my favourite vampire series. I promise there are no sparking, my little pony vampires in these tales (suck it Twilight). I feel like I could go on for hours gushing over the Vampire Chronicles, but it’s probably better if you spend that time reading it and getting caught up yourself.
5. A Darker Shade of Magic – V.E. Schwab. Magic! In a darker shade! I love darker shades! Seriously though this story is about a young man named Kell who is one of the last people who can walk between different Londons with varying degrees of magic. There are three books in this series and I enjoyed all of them. Should you pick these up yourself, you’re in for some crazy adventures, magic, villains, and pirates! Who doesn’t like pirates??

6. Name of the Wind – Patrick Rothfuss. This series is one of the best written stories I have ever read. The unfolding and layering of storytelling draws you in right away and keeps you in until the very end. I read he first two books back-to-back and was so sad to learn that the third book isn’t out yet. I’VE BEEN WAING FOR SO LONG MR. ROTHFUSS!! Get on it! Anyways… if you like adventure tales with some magic and mystery this book is definitely for you.
If you’ve read any of these let us know! We’re any of them your favourite? Did you dislike any of them? Have you seen any of the film as well as reading the books and how do you feel about that? Get it all off your chest by commenting below!
